On 20th October, DubaiPetrolHeads team was invited to attend the launch of the Toyota bZ4X Touring, which is the larger and more practical variant in the bZ4X lineup and making it Toyota’s first electric vehicle in the UAE lineup.
The stand out features involves a dual electric motor with the drivetrain being all wheel drive with a claimed driving range of up to 480 km.
Exterior Design
The Toyota bZ4X Touring builds on the design of the standard bZ4X with a longer body that provides additional luggage space. It measures 4,830 mm in length, 1,860 mm in width and 1,675 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2,850 mm.
Similar to Toyota’s latest models, the bZ4X Touring adopts the brand’s current design language, featuring the signature hammerhead front-end design with a split-headlight arrangement.
As the Touring variant is designed with greater emphasis on practicality and outdoor use, it features black matte plastic cladding around the wheel arches, which helps protect the bodywork from stone chips and road debris while giving the SUV a more rugged appearance. Roof rails are also included for carrying additional luggage or outdoor equipment.
At the rear, a full-width LED light bar extends across the tailgate, accompanied by a roof-mounted spoiler and a sculpted rear bumper. These elements also form part of the vehicle’s aerodynamic design, which is intended to help improve efficiency and maximise driving range.
Interior and Practicality
The Toyota bZ4X Touring features a minimalist dashboard layout with slim air vents and a 14-inch infotainment touchscreen at the center. The screen provides access to various vehicle functions, including climate control, audio and driving settings along with accessing built in navigation, connecting the phone through wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, while a separate 7-inch digital instrument cluster displays driving information. The infotainment system also features a nine speakers JBL audio system.
The bZ4X only comes in the VXR variant which features synthetic leather upholstery, electrically adjustable and ventilated front seats, along with a memory function for the driver’s seat. Other features include dual-zone climate control, rear air vents, ambient lighting, a digital rear-view mirror and two wireless phone chargers.
In terms of practicality, Toyota quotes a luggage capacity of 619 litres with the rear seats in place, expanding to 1,240 litres when folded, based on the Japanese-market specifications.
Powertrain and Charging
The car uses a dual-motor with all wheel drive system which produces a combined 375 hp. Powered by a 74.7 kWh battery, the SUV accelerates from 0–100 km/h in 4.5 seconds and offers a claimed driving range of up to 480 km based on vehicle testing. Actual range may vary depending on driving conditions, driving habits and air-conditioning usage.
To drive on different terrains, the bZ4X Touring comes equipped with Toyota’s X-MODE system, which includes settings for snow and dirt, as well as deep snow and mud. Grip Control and Downhill Assist Control are also included to help maintain traction on slippery surfaces and control vehicle speed when descending slopes.
For charging, the bZ4X Touring supports AC charging at up to 22 kW through a Type 2 connection and DC fast charging at up to 150 kW using a CCS2 connector. Toyota also lists a portable three-pin household charger and a Type 2-to-Type 2 charging cable as approved accessories for the UAE market.
Safety and Driver Assistance
Toyota Safety Sense 3 is included with dynamic radar cruise control, lane departure alert, lane tracing assist and a pre-collision system. Automatic and adaptive high-beam functions are also listed.
For parking and maneuvering, the SUV has a panoramic view monitor, intelligent parking assist, parking support brake and four sensors each at the front and rear. Blind spot monitoring and safe exit assist are included, alongside front, side, curtain and driver’s knee airbags.
Price and Availability
The Toyota bZ4X Touring VXR is now available and it is listed at AED 184,900 including VAT. The price excludes shipping and handling charges, and additional charges may apply depending on the colour selected.
